Caramba Switcher Pro is a smart automatic switcher for smart people — an essential tool if you work with text in both English and Russian. Supported layouts: English (US) — Russian and Russian PC.
Undoing a conversion is done with a double Shift press — DoubleShift
or a single press of Pause Break.
Passwords. If a password is longer than six characters and simultaneously contains lowercase letters, capitals, digits or symbols, the layout switches to English automatically. Video
Switching the language. You can now change the system language with a single press of Shift.
Coding. Games. While you are in a development environment or playing a game, the automation switches itself off in most cases. Put any game in the Games folder, or put the program you need there — and auto-switching is disabled inside it! Programs are added to the exclusion list at the request of the majority of users. A program can be taken back out of the exclusions in the «Exclusions» section.
Captchas. The program recognises many kinds of captcha, but we recommend turning the automation off with a double Shift while typing one.

Switching the layout by hand takes about a second; deleting and retyping something entered in the wrong one takes several.

Almost no settings
Caramba Switcher Pro learns as you work — you never have to stop and open the Caramba Switcher interface to add a rule or an exception! Bear in mind that mistakes are possible while it is learning, especially at the start.
Exceptions. For auto-switching to be accurate, please finish typing the word. Abbreviations are best typed in capitals, as the language requires, and contractions with a full stop.
Creating rules. If a word you typed was switched incorrectly, open «Exceptions» and add the word or abbreviation. Note: the most common words, abbreviations and single letters cannot be added to rules and exceptions, because it would break the language model. Video
If a rule was added by mistake. Type the word, let it switch, delete it with backspace and type it again. The mistaken rule is removed.
CApitals. Caramba also fixes cases like «HEllo» — «Hello» on its own. The more you work with it, the better it understands you and the less it gets wrong. Video

September 2021 marked 20 years of Punto Switcher, the automatic layout switching program developed by Sergey Moskalev and his like-minded colleagues. Yandex bought the project in 2008. At the time the service had more than a million users.
Caramba Switcher is a new app that picks the language automatically. Here is how it works. You start typing Russian text but with the English layout on, and end up with something like “Ghbdtn^ rfr ltkf?” instead of “Привет, как дела?”. The program analyses what you typed and understands that in English it is a jumble of letters, while in Russian it is meaningful text.
These days you can't do without automatic keyboard layout switching while typing either. I personally used Punto Switcher for this, which Yandex now owns. However, it hasn't been updated in a very long time and is frankly outdated. The only worthy alternative is Caramba Switcher. Caramba Switcher is an automatic layout switcher from the creator of Punto Switcher. Caramba Switcher has no settings at all: just remember that a double press of Shift changes the layout of the last word, and Alt + Shift changes the layout of selected text. It does everything else on its own.
Back in 2001, Punto Switcher was a pirate ship. Over time the project gathered barnacles, new masts and decks, and became a flagship. In 2018 we longed for a free spirit again, and so the new layout switcher was named Caramba Switcher.
The author of the legendary Punto Switcher has released a self-learning layout switcher. The new app has a minimalist interface and almost no settings, which is made up for by self-learning algorithms. For now it runs only on Windows, but the author has promised a macOS version soon.
A simplified alternative to Punto Switcher is out, with German support. Instead of the 96 settings in Punto Switcher, Caramba Switcher has exactly one: it turns automatic keyboard language switching on and off. Everything else Moskalev and his team have “hidden under the hood”.
Sergey Moskalev and his team have released Caramba Switcher for Windows. To unpack that: the developer of Punto Switcher has built a new program that works like Punto, but for the 21st century. There are almost no settings, it works well straight away, and it finally supports several languages (Russian, English and German for now). I'll wait for the Mac version to live with it for a while, although I don't really need this kind of program myself.
The most important achievements of new technology will go unnoticed: smart devices and programs really will accumulate more and more information about their users and become more efficient.
