Secure input mode in macOS
If auto-switching has stopped working and a red badge and an alert have appeared on the Caramba icon, one of your running programs or a browser tab has turned on secure input mode.
Applications and browsers turn this mode on when a password is being typed.
While secure input is active, the system prevents any program — Caramba Switcher included — from reacting to keystrokes or changing the layout.
This usually shows up with programs such as 1Password and LastPass, and with digital-signature plugins.
Find the program holding Caramba Switcher back and close it, from the Dock or from its menu bar icon. Locking the screen ("Lock screen") and unlocking again with your password or fingerprint can also clear it.
As soon as you restart whatever was holding secure input open, the red badge disappears from the Caramba Switcher icon and auto-switching works again.
